One of my summer projects in 2020 was deconstructing and cleaning an old Yamaha MC2404. This was the first audio console I used back in 5th grade and is close to my heart. I rescued it from an e-waste pile a few years back and it sat on my desk unused for most of that time. The process of cleaning was fairly simple. I deconstructed the console down to the individual PCB modules. Each component was scrubbed clean either in a surfactant solution or with a dry brush. Years of use by children's ministries left the console full of dust, crumbs, and trash. After a few days of cleaning and some minor repair, I patched it back up and used it as a tool to refresh my knowledge of the ProTools routing workflow.
